From the 7th to the 11th of September it is Zero Waste Week!
As part of Zero Waste Week we are giving you a Zero Waste Tip every single day of this week. We'll be sending them out via email, so make sure you check your inbox! Our goal is to share tips that you can do easily at home, no need to necessarily go out and buy anything, just using what you have to reduce your waste.
Zero Waste Tip #2: Plastic Free Shopping
There is more to plastic free shopping than just remembering your own bag, although that does go a long way to reduce waste! Thankfully there are many zero waste refill shops popping up in communities around the world where you can take your own containers, fill them up and pay for the weight of your purchase. These shops make it super easy to reduce your waste when you are buying many different foods from pasta to rice, to flours and baking goods, nuts and cereals and even some plastic free swaps such as deodorant and shampoo bars!
Don't have a refill shop nearby? Not to worry, you can start small and just focus on the groceries that you can avoid plastic with, such as fruits and vegetables. Many supermarkets and outdoor markets offer plastic free fruits and veg and if you take some time you may find other products that come in recyclable packaging, such as pastas, cheese, deli meats and bakery products.
Supporting The Ocean Cleanup
This month Ocean Helper is donating 10% of profits to the Ocean Cleanup because we adore everything they stand for and do! The Ocean Cleanup is at the forefront of developing technology to help erase plastic from the ocean, with the most recent accomplishment being the launch of the Interceptor 4 which is extracting waste from one of the dirtiest rivers in the world.
